The Signal Minute · 13 Oct 2026: Google's AI coworker, ads in ChatGPT, and AI 90% cheaper

Three signals. Three moves. Sixty seconds.

Signal one · Everyday AIGoogle just hired you a coworker with its own email address.

Google Cloud announced the Gemini agent on 8 Oct at Gemini at Work. Give it an objective and it runs multi-step work for hours or days: scheduling meetings, building decks, reconciling invoices, with sub-agents and a tasks inbox showing its progress. A persistent agent can have its own Workspace account, email address, calendar and Drive. It is in private preview for enterprise customers, included with Gemini Enterprise at no extra charge, with wider availability on select Workspace Business and Enterprise plans promised but undated.

YOUR MOVE

Write down the one job you'd hand it. That's your first AI hire.

Signal two · Customer discoveryAds are coming to ChatGPT.

On 5 Oct OpenAI announced visual ads that appear next to images ChatGPT generates. Testing starts later in October, in the US only, with an initial group of advertisers. The ads are labelled, kept separate from the generated image, and OpenAI says they do not influence ChatGPT's answers. ChatGPT reaches 1.2 billion people a week. OpenAI is also adding conversion and attribution partners and brand-suitability checks for advertisers.

YOUR MOVE

Ask ChatGPT what it recommends in your category. If you're not in the answer, that's the gap to close.

Signal three · AI costsAI just got 90% cheaper.

On 7 Oct Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens, a 90% cut from Haiku 4.5 ($1.00 and $5.00). A million tokens is roughly 700,000 words. OpenAI's small model, GPT-6 Luna, sits at the same $0.10 and $0.50 rates. These are the prices the software you pay for is built on, so the saving should reach your subscriptions.
