GEO

GEO. Be the answer AI gives.

GEO is how your business becomes the answer. Generative engine optimization: the technical work that lets AI assistants read your site, and the answer content (the AEO half) that gives them something worth quoting. We do both, we measure both, and your report shows both moving. The Signal Audit measures where you stand free, in about a minute; the fix is payable over six months, and your first payment follows the proof.

Why now

Your customers started using agents.

Every consumer brand now has a second audience: the AI agent advising the buyer. B2C is also B2A: brand to agent. When a customer asks ChatGPT or Gemini who to call, the agent reads websites and recommends one business. A GEO upgrade is the first project to run because it makes you visible to the audience that now sits between you and your customers. The answer content is the other half of that work, and it is included.

The three things that break GEO

Blocked AI crawlers

If robots.txt blocks GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot, AI engines cannot read your site at all. The block is not always in robots.txt. It can sit at your host or your content network, where nobody looking at the website would see it. The free audit reads robots.txt. We test the host and network layers by hand during the build.

No entity schema

Your business should describe itself the same way everywhere. Your site, your Google listing, your social profiles. When those disagree, agents hedge, and a hedge is not a recommendation. We write one description, put it in all three places, and install the standard markup that carries it.

No quotable answers

We restructure your key pages so the first paragraph answers the question a customer would ask. Agents pull from the opening of a page. Most business sites open with a welcome instead of an answer.

How a build runs.

This is how we deliver a build. Buying is four steps and no discovery phase. Delivery is four more: the audit tells us what is broken, the price is standard and published, the fix lands inside five business days, and the re-audit on day five is what starts your billing.

1

Audit

Free, about a minute, a score out of 100.

2

Build

The fix lands inside five business days of getting access, with a person checking every artifact before you see it.

3

Prove

We re-run the audit and hand you the before-and-after score. Your first payment follows it.

4

Hand over

Documented, taught, and left running on accounts you own.

GEO agencies typically charge small businesses $1,500 to $5,000 a month on retainer, and a standalone audit often sells for $500 to $2,500 (typical 2026 market rates). We work differently: the audit is free, the fix is $995 once or $195 a month for six months, with a monthly report for a year, and nothing after that. Nothing is charged at all until the re-audit proves the jump.

Do it yourself

Five GEO moves you can make this week.

You do not need us for everything. These five checks are free, most take minutes, and they are the same basics our audit measures. If you would rather have them done for you, that is the business we are in. Start here if you like doing things yourself.

1

Look at your robots.txt

Open yourdomain.com/robots.txt in a browser. If GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot appears next to the word Disallow, AI engines cannot read your site. Often one line fixes it.

2

Ask ChatGPT about your business

Ask by name and town, then ask who it would recommend for what you do. Note what it gets wrong, and who it names instead of you.

3

Claim and fill your Google Business Profile

Hours, address, phone, services and photos. Assistants check it before they check your site, and a thin profile is a reason to name someone else.

4

Answer the question first

Rewrite your homepage opening so the first sentence answers what a customer would actually ask. A slogan gives an engine nothing to quote.

5

Use one description everywhere

Put the same one or two sentences on your website, Google Business Profile, Instagram and LinkedIn. Engines trust a business they can identify the same way in every place they look.

When you have done what you can, run the free Signal Audit. It measures the website side of this list and emails you a one-page report.

Our own site scores 100/100 on the same Signal Audit we run on yours: reachable by every major assistant, readable without running code, consistent with our Google listing. Run the audit on barnessignaladvisor.com and check.

Questions we get about GEO

GEO is the work of making a website readable, quotable and recommendable by AI engines like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Four things decide it: whether assistants can reach your site, whether they can read it without running code, whether your pages answer the question the customer asked, and whether the rest of your presence agrees.

SEO helps a page rank in a list of search results. GEO makes your content the direct answer an assistant gives, and it adds the technical layer (crawler access, readable pages and consistent entity markup) that lets generative engines read and trust the site at all.

B2A means a brand now markets to AI agents as well as people. Assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity read, compare and recommend businesses on a customer's behalf, so the agent is a second audience for every consumer brand. GEO is how a website earns that agent's recommendation.

Signal Fix is $995 once, or $195 a month for six months. Signal Rebuild is $2,495 once, or $495 a month for six months. Both include a monthly report for a year. You pay nothing unless the score moves. Nothing is charged until the day-five re-audit meets the score target stated in your quote.

Crawler access can be fixed the same day. Schema and answer content follow inside five business days of getting access to your site, which is when the re-audit runs.

Run the free Signal Audit at barnessignaladvisor.com/signal-audit. It checks AI crawler access, readability, entity schema, FAQ schema and answer content, and emails you a one-page report.

Five things: check robots.txt for blocked AI crawlers, ask ChatGPT what it knows about your business, claim and fill your Google Business Profile, rewrite your homepage opening so it answers a real customer question, and use one identical business description everywhere. The free Signal Audit covers the website side of that list, and the baseline we record before any build asks the assistants directly.
